Explosive Device Found In Van Near WSU

DETROIT (WWJ) - It was a scare near Wayne State on Wednesday when two university police officers stopped a man in a van and discovered drugs inside.

The van was impounded in a Wayne State University lot, where a further search discovered an explosive device.

Speaking with WWJ Newsradio 950, inspector Don Johnson described what kind of explosives were found.

"This was definitely military-grade explosives that we are dealing with and we are going to investigate this case a little bit further just to find out where in fact the defendant got them from," Johnson said.

The device was removed from the vehicle by the bomb squad.

There were no injuries and no evacuations.

Police did not immediately release any details about the suspect who remains in custody.
