National Guard Airmen Return From War In Afghanistan
HARRISON TWP. (WWJ) - Hundreds of airmen with the Michigan Air National Guard have returned for a reunion with family at Selfridge Air National Guard Base in Harrison Township.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher reports that joy and relief were evident on the faces of family members awaiting the return of loved ones.
About 300 airman of the Michigan Air National Guard returned home from a four-month deployment in Afghanistan on Monday.
Danielle Amerrito of Shelby Twp. was there to welcome home her boyfriend Shane Cannon: "I'm extremely excited - I've missed him a lot," she said.
"I've been waiting for this a long time, it was a 17-hour flight - it's a terrible place, I don't want to go back and I'm glad to be back home," said Cannon.
