Demonstration Planned Near Governor's Home In Protest Of Emergency Law

DETROIT (WWJ) - Michigan State Police say they are working closely with other agencies on a security plan that will allow demonstrators to gather Monday outside Governor Rick Snyder's gated neighborhood in Superior Township.

Protestors will be there -- speaking out against the state's emergency manager law.  Officials say they want to make sure people can exercise their constitutional rights ... while taking into consideration safety and other concerns.

WWJ Newsradio 950's Beth Fisher reports that the Reverend Al Sharpton was in Detroit Sunday and said some may question going to someone's home.

"Sometimes when people are sick - and this is a sick policy - this Emergency Management Act - sometimes when people are sick they will go to church and get prayer or they will go to the doctor and get help but sometimes doctors have to make house calls," said Sharpton who will not be a part of the protest -- but says their message is a peaceful one.

Sharpton calls the emergency manager law unconstitutional.

Sharpton adds that the National Action Network will send a letter to the U.S. Attorney General's office, to ask him to look into the legality of the law.
