Fans Stunned, Excited By Fielder Signing

DETROIT (WWJ) - The crowning of Prince Fielder to the Detroit Tigers in a nine-year, $214 million deal still has baseball fans stunned and excited.

Talking to WWJ Newsradio 950's Sandra McNeil, Ray Sone of Bloomfield Hills, who found out about the news in a text from his son, said the agreement is big news. "It's like the Lions getting the top running back in the league or the Wings signing one of the top hockey players," he said.

Joel Clark of Farmington Hills said he already attends Tigers games but Fielder will get him out to the ballpark even more frequently.

"I've been excited for the Tigers for the last couple of years, their pitching staff is locked up, I've very excited for their future and this is just another big step," said Clark.

Prentice Alexander of Detroit said he was not surprised when he first heard the news of Fielder's signing. Alexander predicted the son of former Tigers first baseman Cecil Fielder would eventually follow his father's path.  "I knew it was going to happen one day," he said.

Season ticket holder Alex Malone of Pontiac has some expectations for Fielder. He said the slugger will hit at least 25 home runs and win the Home Run Derby.
