Volunteers Sought To Assist Eastpointe Seniors

EASTPOINTE (WWJ) – The Eastpointe Housing Commission is looking for volunteers to help out some local seniors as they await a fix to the elevator at a senior housing facility.

City Manager Steve Duchane said the repairs at the 5-story Chester Berry Manor are expected to take four weeks, leaving the seniors without an elevator.

But he said, thankfully, they’re not concerned about any emergency issues.

“Because the elevator actually shuts down during fire emergencies and things like that,” said Duchane . “So, all our plans on evacuation and other things are not geared toward dependence on an elevator, so that takes a little bit of the immediate urgency, as far as that goes.”

While the repairs are underway, the seniors could use some help in their day-to-day lives.
