Metro Airport Preps For President's Arrival

ROMULUS (WWJ) - Metro Airport was beefing up security as it prepared for the president's arrival Thursday night.

President Barack Obama is on a three day tour of swing states that he'll wrap up with a speech Friday at the University of Michigan campus in Ann Arbor.

Airport spokesman Mike Conway said airport security would be supplemented by the secret service and he expected things to go smoothly when the president arrived.

"Between all the candidates for office coming in here, and presidential visits over many, many years, we've developed a really good relationship to develop a very safe and sound protocol when the president reports Detroit Metropolitan Airport," said Conway.

"And we'll work closely and cooperatively with those federal agents as we always do," he said.

Would other travelers be affected?  Conway wasn't specific as to how any flights might be impacted.

"There will be temporary disruptions, but not enough that anybody should change their travel plans, that's for sure," he said.

Overnight Wednesday into the morning, thousands of University of Michigan students and faculty members stood in line hope to get tickets to the president's speech. (More on this here).
