Oakland University Gets $21 Million Donation

ROCHESTER (WWJ) - Oakland University has received the largest individual donation in the school's history. The $21 million anonymous gift is earmarked for many areas within the University, including The School of Engineering and Computer Science, the William Beaumont School of Medicine, and the Women's Golf Team.

Eric Barritt, Vice President of University Relations, says the entire O.U. community is speechless over the donor's generosity.

"Words can not adequately describe ... how humbled and grateful we are for this gift, it will make an immense difference to the university, for our students, the faculty and staff for generations to come. This is truly a gift that will live on in perpetuity," said Barritt.

Barritt believes the gift is an acknowledgement of the hard work that students, faculty and staff have put in over the years to make Oakland University a first-choice destination.

While two thirds of the donation is directed toward certain departments with the university the remainder will be used for campus operations and capital needs.
