MSU Hosts Chicago Photographer's Garden Series

EAST LANSING (WWJ/AP) - The Michigan State University College of Law is hosting an exhibition from February through April of garden photography by Brad Temkin of Chicago.

The show is called "Gardens. From The Backyard to Rooftops" and runs through April.

A reception with Temkin is scheduled Feb. 13 at 5 p.m. on the fourth floor atrium of the Law College building.

The exhibit includes two series of photography. One called "Private Places" is a series that focuses on the garden as an oasis for people to enjoy in their personal time. It explores the expression of individuality that private gardens display and the escape for the mind they provide.

The other called "Rooftop: The Rise of Living Architecture" documents the science of rooftop gardens and their affect on the thermodynamic behavior of buildings. By having these rooftop gardens, the ecological carbon footprint is reduced because of the decreasing energy usage.

Temkin is a Chicago-based photographer who focuses on the human impact on contemporary landscape. His work is exhibited in several galleries including the Art Institute of Chicago, Milwaukee Art Museum, Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., and the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston.
