TROY (WWJ) – For the fifth month in a row, the nation’s unemployment rate is lower, dropping this time to 8.3 percent after a surge in hiring last month. The government says employers added 243,000 jobs last month — the most in nine months.
Carl Camden, CEO of the Kelly Services hiring firm in Troy, said these numbers look good.
“I think that they’re very impressive. They’re above analysts expectations, above kind of the baseline number that we need to hit in order to reduce unemployment — and, in fact, you saw an unemployment reduction,” Camden told WWJ Newsradio 950.
Camden said things are also looking up in our state.
“I think that when the state-by-state breakdown we will see good news here in Michigan. Automotive sales are rising. Automotive-related jobs employment is rising,” he said. “While Michigan’s been a little late to the recovery party, I think we’re gonna be a strong strong participant for the next year.”
Camden said what he finds particularly encouraging about these numbers is that the nation saw growth in almost every segment of employment, other than government.
