Woman Charged With Torturing Step-Grandchild

OCEOLA TOWNSHIP (WWJ) - A Livingston County woman has been arrested for allegedly torturing a toddler in her care.

According to detectives at the Livingston County Sheriff's Department the arrest comes after a 3-year-old boy was taken to the hospital in October with a core body temperature of just 88 degrees and over 60 different injuries including numerous bruises and lacerations and a brain injury.

The boy's 34-year-old step-grandmother Sara Rae Walters of Oceola Township was arrested Friday and has been charged with first degree child abuse and torture.   If convicted on the torture charge, she faces life in prison.

Walters is being held at the Livingston County Jail on $200,000 bond.
