Royal Oak Man Arrested For Discharging Fire Extinguisher At Church

WATERFORD TWP. (WWJ) - Police in Waterford Township have arrested a 31-year-old Royal Oak man after he caused extensive damage to a church by discharging a fire extinguisher.

Investigators say Norman Ochelski walked into Our Lady of Lakes Church on Dixie Hwy. just after 9 p.m. on Monday and broke an alter candle before emptying the contents of a fire extinguisher at the chapel.

After speaking with witnesses, police determined Ochelski had been asked to leave a neighboring business several hours prior to entering the church.

Ochelski was located a short distance from the church and arrested without incident. He was arraigned on one count of malicious destruction of property less than $20,000 and one count of malicious destruction of property less than $1,000.

Ochelski is currently being held on $100,000 bond.
