Gator's Blog: Indy Has A Lot To Offer During The Super Bowl

Indianapolis is actually a pretty cool city. For those who have never been here, there's plenty to see and do even if the Super Bowl weren't in town. Fortunately for us, it is, and what it shows is that a smaller market can handle the pressure of the big stage.

In 2006 when Detroit hosted, many thought it wouldn't fly, that Detroit didn't have enough to offer the tens of thousands of fans that would flood the metro area. But that's just it, it's a metro area. Indianapolis is not that dissimilar from Detroit in this regard. On Friday night, we spent our time in an area Broad Ripple. It was described to us as the Royal Oak of Indiana. That was pretty accurate as the nightlife was teeming with plenty of places to go and people to see (not to mention things to sample).

What struck me most was how Indianapolis took the Detroit model and used it to their advantage. There were plenty of make-shift bars and food stands that popped up simply because of this week. The city found creative ways to keep people entertained and well lubricated for the duration. I am left with no doubt that the local economy benefited greatly from hosting this great event. It will be interesting to see which city will host another Super Bowl first, Detroit or Indy.
