The Lions — the team, the coaching staff, the front office — has moved beyond the failures of the past.

Unlike previous head coaches, Jim Schwartz didn’t ignore them. It was more like he met them head on, got over them, and the players have taken on the same persona while following his lead.

The front office, most of which was already in place, didn’t ignore the past as much as avoid the same mistakes made during the 10 years it was guided by Matt Millen, who displayed the same navigation skills as Francesco Schettino, the captain who sailed his cruise ship onto the reef off the Tuscan Coast.
