DETROIT (WWJ) – Local high schools can hit a Grand Slam with a grant from Comerica Bank.  Comerica is expanding its Grand Slam Program to  improve the school’s baseball or softball program.

Comerica President Tom Ogden explained  that, this year, they are offering two grants, one in Metro Detroit and the other in the Central/West Michigan area.

“And we’re hoping to be able, in a couple of cases here, to help fund investment in what we consider to be, you know, the sport of the country,” Ogden told WWJ Newsradio 950’s Greg Bowman.  “It’s something we all grew up with, the Tigers and baseball, and we want to support that.”

Detroit Renaissance High School won the grant last year, and used the money for new equipment, a new scoreboard and a travel showcase youth clinic.

The deadline to apply for the grant is Friday Feb. at 10 at 5 p.m.  Entries should be submitted to grandslamgrant@comerica.com.
