Weekend Of Fun At Motown Winter Blast

DETROIT (WWJ) - The 8th Annual Motown Winter Blast is already underway and many are making it into Downtown Detroit to enjoy the fun.

WWJ's Pat Sweeting spoke with Russle Lutch and his fiance Bethany.  The couple is planning to do a bit of ice skating:

"I'm going to try," said Bethany.

"I'm going to push her around," said Lutch.

Winter Blast producer John Whitt started off the weekend of fun cutting into an ice scuplture of a ribbon.

"We've got the dog sledding exhibition - we're out here with 12 inches of snow, so you can snow shoe for free all weekend ... there is also free ice skating ... you can skate on the Campus Martius Park Rink," said Winter Blast producer, John Whitt.

Whitt says you'll also find carnival rides and in the warming tents, and listen to musical performances outdoors, you can head outdoors again marshmallow roasts and ice sculptures in the Greek Town Casino ice garden.

Winter Blast continues all weekend.   Several corporate sponsors help keep the fun going without cost for some of the events.

There is a "charge" but the cost is a donation to Matrix Human Services and the 3 Million Pound Challenge. You can bring one of the following to gain admission:

  • A canned food item
  • A children't book
  • $1 that will be a donated directly to Matric Human Services
