Snowplow Driver Gets Probation In Death Of Man, 19

MUSKEGON (AP) - A truck driver has received probation in the death of a 19-year-old struck and killed by a snowplow.

The Muskegon Chronicle reports that District Judge Andrew Wierengo III on Friday gave 33-year-old Jeremy Griffin six months' probation and 60 hours of community service.

Griffin pleaded no contest Dec. 22 to a moving violation causing death, a misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail.

Corey McNett was standing along the side of a highway and behind his vehicle when he was struck Feb. 13, 2011.

Last month, a judge approved a $1 million settlement that ended a lawsuit filed by McNett's family against the landscaping business that owned the truck.

A prosecutor had sought jail time for Griffin. Wierengo said jail would serve no purpose.
