11-Year-Old Boy Dies Following Friday Crash

CHESTERFIELD TWP. (WWJ) - An 11-year-old boy injured in an accident on the way to school last Friday morning has died.

Chesterfield Township police said Kyle Halcomb died of his injuries Sunday night. He was a student at Anchor Bay Middle School North.

Kyle's 35-year-old mother was driving him and his four siblings, ages 8, 10, 12, and 13, to school after they missed the bus when the crash occurred at 26 Mile Road and County Line Road.  The mother and the other kids were treated for more minor injuries. The drivers of two other vehicles that collided with the mini van were not seriously hurt.

Police originally reported that the traffic signal may have been malfunctioning, but investigators later said it appears the mother may have gone through a red light.

Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash. The investigation continues.
