Sex Offender Arrested After Approaching Girl Near Bus Stop

SHELBY TWP. (WWJ) - A 32-year-old Ferndale man has been arrested, accused of approaching a 14-year-old girl while she walked to the school bus stop.

Shelby Township police said Thursday morning, near 23 Mile and Dequindre roads, the Malow Junior High student was approaching the bus stop when the suspect, who is a registered sex offender, drove up to her in a white Cadillac Seville and asked some personal questions.

Police said the girl continued walking to the bus stop where she told other students what happened. When the bus arrived, the driver called police.

Students were taken to school while they were interview by officers. They were able to provide police with the suspect's license plate number.

No children were abducted and one was injured.  According to police, the man was taken into custody on an unrelated charge.

A letter will be going home with parents on Thursday informing them of the incident.

Shelby Township police are investigating. Anyone who witnessed the incident can contact Lt. Stan Muszynski at (586) 731-2121 Ext. 315, or muszynskis@shelbytwppd.org.
