Romulus Police Handing Out Gift Cards

ROMULUS (WWJ) - If you're approached by a police officer on Friday, it might not be something to worry about.

Romulus police will be rewarding careful drivers, and young people who may not be driving, but getting around safely with other modes of transportation.

It's Random Act of Kindness Day and Romulus Police Captain John Leacher says they're passing out Subway gift cards.

"As they get off buses and they go home and they're walking down the sidewalks instead of in the street, you know, those are great opportunities for us to have some positive interaction with them," Leacher said.

This is the first time Romulus police have handed out gift cards and Leacher says the feedback has been terrific.

Police will be handing out 75 cards throughout the day to motorists and pedestrians obeying the law.
