Toy Guns Becoming A Criminal Offense?

DETROIT (WWJ) – State lawmakers are currently reviewing legislation that targets the use of certain toy guns. A planned proposal before the Senate would make it a crime to possess a toy gun that has its required markings removed or by having a real gun that is made up to look like a toy.

State Senate Republican Rick Jones said that this has become a major problem, especially within the gang community. “People are taking imitation firearms that look real, cutting off the orange end and then threatening people,” he said.

Supporters of the proposed legislation have also cited a recent case where a police officer was forced to shoot a gang member who was aiming a toy gun without its required markings. Jones believes this proposal will be vital in preventing incidents such as this from occurring in the future.

“This is an important package to control this problem,” Jones said.

If the legislation is passed, people who possess these toy guns and use it to commit a felony, would be punishable for up to 18 months behind bars and be subject to fines.

  • tahlkewl1

If you point a gun with or without an orange tip at a cop, expect to be shot. Not sure we need a law, sounds more like natural selection..

    • frank

I agree. Stupid can not be cured.

    • Collector

Why do they need more laws? It’s already against the law to remove the red markings and it’s already against the law to possess a real gun without a permit. So I’m sure all of the gang members sitting around with real guns are going to make sure it doesn’t have any red markings. And I’m sure these gang members are going to stop removing the red markings before they rob that store. State Lawmakers are idiots.

      • Eric Rogers

I own guns legally without a permit.

    • Tom

Let me get this straight. A criminal using a toy gun to commit a crime will face an additional 18 months in jail? Wake up! He is a criminal – do you really think that having a toy gun or real gun is going to make ANY difference at all in the crime rate in the Detroit Metro area.

I don’t know about half-time in America but the politicians are half-wits if they think this legislation is going to make any one safer or prevent CRIMINALS from using anything they want.

      • Shrugged

Tom – this is the city that invented the Chevy volt – come on! They are wizards of intelligence!

    • deepdiver58

Amen… stupid is as stupid does.

    • stainless1911

So, he wouldn’t have been shot for pointing a real gun at the cop?

Oh, I get it now, if they pass this law, the kid wouldnt have been pointing a toy at a cop.

    • Chris

I guess if they dont make toys everyone real resort back to the real thing. What a great law.

    • steamdwarf

all gang members should be issued toy guns with the orange tip cut off, this is great!

    • Osamas Pajamas

Agreed. And when a kid does this and gets shot — blame his parents — not the cop.

      • ditchdigger2

I was raised in a society that if the local Sheriff saw a kid with a real rifle, .22, or larger, across his handlebars, or on a horse, he would ask what you were after today, trying to find out your secret hunting spots. It was low level political corruption.

      • Tom

Wow, staggeringly stupid comment…imagine this all the way from our formation as a free nation until now, toy guns were acceptable, why, because nobody gets hurt by a toy gun. So a child points a toy gun at a cop…Ive actually seen this in my life, in my day all kids had toy guns…you know the cops, back then didnt even have a vest on, pulled out his finger and shot back at us. But in you idiots minds, the cop drawing his gun and blowing away a six year old sounds acceptable?… For real? Wow…you are scary stupid. At 6 years old, kids dont even really know what dead means, they arent hung up on money, and an ice cream cone can distract them from playing even video games…but you brainiacs think a cop just pulling out his gun and shooting the child siunds reasonable…whoa,, everyone of you needs to dmand more of those who carry firearms legally…and thats that they MUST use their heads, before ever drawing his weapon…there are a hundred ways to disarm that child, none of which involves lethal force…but this nudge is like helll ys kll a child, no problem…Dude you ARE the problem. The second isuue with this is that having a fake gun is always better for everyone involved than if a criminal had a real gun…duh! Which is more dangeroys to yiu genuises…a fake gun pointed at your head, or a loaded real gun pointed at your head…the answer is obvious…a man with a fake gun will only make you think you will die, the man with the real gun will actually kill you Yet we have to listen to idiotic ramblings of stupid liberals like osamas pajamas…great.

    • thags

So a 6 year old kid points a cap gun at a cop and you feel this child should be shot… I fail to grasp your logic.

      • Shrugged

@thags – Shadow a cop for a week and your logic will suddenly appear.

      • Alan

Having been a citizen of Detroit once and knowing the culture, what does a cop do when a drug gangster hires a 6 yr old to shoot anyone including cops while he sells drugs in the street… knowing cops will hesitate to shoot a 6 yr old. We are fortunate that drugs makes you stupid and the gangsters have not thought about painting the end of the barres to look like toys.
Thags, I fail to see your logic for police to not defend themselves from being shot by the 6 yr olds in Detroit.

      • TruthBeSilenced

The odds of the president’s and vice president’s last names combined having the same 9 consecutive letters as the name of the most wanted terrorist is over 5 trillion to 1.

The next election is shaping up to be as big of a sham as the last. Do you know why Sarah Palin’s bus tour was really canceled? Do you know why she stayed 30 miles away from the second debate and chose the death of Steve Jobs to announce that she’s not running? Know what leaked out? Sarah Palin and Cain aren’t in the race for the same reason, the truth leaked out.

      • Dau Tieng 59

What if the sun got really, really hot and shone down on the toy gun and burnt the kids hand should we pass a aw saying nothing can be made of metal because it gets hot and could burn some innocent person?

      • Tim Desland

akw, you’re an idiot. Don’t you know that the whole reason the toy industry now uses an orange tip on toy guns stems from a real incident of a cop shooting a child in CA, when the cop thought the kid had a real gun?

      • Guest

If you’re buying your kids realistic looking guns and then not supervising them while they point their realistic guns at cops, then its your fault if your child gets shot.

      • Ursus Magnus

Stupid is as stupid does. Teach the kid not to point the gun at anyone he’s not playing with. DUH.

      • sport mcnichol

6 yr olds can and do get real guns.. the “baby daddy” of the week leaves ’em lying around while he’s “gettin’ busy” with the breeder mammy..

      • akw

Please. Have you ever heard of a cop in this country feeling threatened by a six year old? A six year old would put the gun down if a cop told him to.

      • GlockG20

Makes perfect sense to me… play stupid games win stupid prizes.

      • PA

If the 6yo has removed/erased/modified the toy marking, they can expect the cops to respond as if it were real if it looks real.

      • Shirley J.

akw , YES. Not a 6 year old but a 7 year old. The kid was playing with friends. Neighborhood busy bodies called the cops. Kid came out of the bushed with a toy gun, cop whipped out his 9MM and pointed it at the kid.

      • jbspry

Ordinarily I’d say you were being ludicrous, but the IS Detroit we’re talking about here. And six-year-olds DO shoot cops in detroit. If I were a parent in Detroit I wouldn’t let my children have toy guns,,,or better yet, I’d get the HELL out of Detroit.

      • allroadsleadtofema

Guess that shows how far we’ve come when we truly have to worry about 6 year olds carrying guns.

      • Reginal Root

so the 6 year old picked up his brothers real gun when brother was zonked out of his mind on crack. The cop knowing of all the shootings is NOT going to take a chance and I am supporting the cop. to a 6 year old death is not so real as they see cartoon characters shot on tv with holes in them and still run around. sure the poor kid did not mean to shoot the cop but he did – so what is better dead cop or dead kid???

      • teaisstronger

All blacks in the street today must be considered armed and dangerous.

    • Michael Lederman

Your logic is irrefutable. But never the one to pass over an opportunity to legislate behavior the democratic party will soon have legislated all manner of behavior.

    • Mr Loo

Pointing a toy gun at police? Play stupid games win stupid prizes….. another attempt to legislate a stop to natural selection

    • Jack

this is stupid. more regulation and laws because of undisciplined blacks. can you imagine how llittle activity there would be in the criminal justice system if they had never been brought here? every law is just a band-aid anyway, a knee jerk reaction to problems that shouldn’t be. the way to permanently lower crime is to ship the blacks back to Africa. it is their natural habitat and they would be comfortable there and adapt easily, they have no place in a civilized society.

    • professor

      Well said

      • Fred-Up

No Professor – that was not “Well-Said”. It was EXCELLENTLY well-said!
Bravo! Will someone please tell me what the HELL has happened to our country in the past twenty years with all these assinine PC, “Feel-Good”, Liberally-conceived, ridiculous laws? We need to take this clown Jones, and every other idiot twit that proposes such stupidity, and toss them out of office on their ear!

      • Stev

Exactly, its a simple thing called common sense.
In this type of economy, anything goes to make an extra buck.
Everyone is for safety but this is just plain common sense, no law needed

What street gang will risk breaking into a white home where a toy gun could very well be a real gun. The chance is not very good.

    • me

What is wrong with police shooting gang members? It should happen more often.

    • daveh

Thank you. Darwin was the first thing I thought of.
      The cop was forced?

    • CommonSense

@teaisstronger, you are absolutely wrong. Having a toy weapon as self defense could put you and your family in more serious danger than you realize. That is an excellent way to invite a shootout you have no chance of winning.

    • airsofter97

only the strong……..or whoever leaves the friggen orange tip on…

  • Racerboy

You point anything resembling a weapon at a police officer, 2 things are for certain: 1. You are really, really stupid. 2. You deserve exactly what you get. End of story.
You simply cannot legislate stupidity…no new laws are going to rectify this situation.

    • ditchdigger2

I cannot imagine any law enforcement agency, except ATF or TSA, if they ever arm them, diliberately targeting children. What happens in between, is truly sad. It is intent, on both sides, been going on for thousands of years before gun powder.

    • jfire

EXACTLY. and my parents taught us that as little children, and we taught ours the same way. We did not buy toy guns that resembled real guns either! But nevertheless the same rule applied. They could play war and cops and robbers, cowboys and indians, with each other, and with us in a game but not at any other time. And we all knew the difference.

    • daveca

“2. You deserve exactly what you get. End of story.”

And what is the LEGAL penalty for pointing a non gun at someone?

Im quite sure its not EXECUTION IN TEH STREETS.

In fact, NO cop has any right to carry out sentences in the streets, thats how it worked in Communist Cuba.

I think you need the help of a shrink to deal with your lack of respect for others lives.

      • deepdiver58

So, tell me how the police are to know it is a fake/toy gun? if a gang member is pointing a gun at you and you hesitate to react… you are dead.

You sound like you have no common sense or street sense.

Perhaps you lack of self respect would endanger your life.

        You’re a progressive… right?

      • Collector

Hey if I’m a cop and some dude points what looks like a gun at me, I’m sure not going to find out if its real or fake before I blow his brains out. If you waited to find out, you wouldn’t live long. So Daveca, you’re an idiot.

      • stainless1911

You’re the one short on thinking here.

The law says that if you reasonably believe that you are in imminent fear, you can use deadly force. Its the self defense act, if you want to look it up for yourself.

A police officer has more legal lattitude than even that.

      • jbspry

Any cop has a right to defend his life on the street. If I saw a gun pointed at me, regardless of the pointer’s age (especially in Detroit) I’d shoot first and ask questions later.

      • BAP

to daveca: really brilliant logic, daveca. However if I remember my history right (my history because I lived it) Cops in Communist Cuba didn’t have to make decisions like that in the streets, because the Government took all the citizens guns. But “street sentences” were carried out if you disagreed with Castro. No trial, no questions, no defense needed- they just shot you!!! I think thats whatcha’ call “Execution in the Streets”.

    • ditchdigger2

I agree, but a veteran street cop, are we trying to subdue a foreign country? Small children. We have a problem with citizens, armed in public, who is the enemy?

    • Arrest The Congress

Indeed. They ‘fear for their life’ upon encountering children, old ladies, disabled people and those in diabetic shock. Shoot to kill with hollow points, delay medical aid until bleed out and a consensus on what goes into a report is made. Works every time, unless those pesky cell phone cameras are present.

      • Osamas Pajamas

That’s because cops are in “law” enforcement instead of “rights” enforcement.

      • Bob

Yeah I know, cops are evil killers and the cause of all of the violence in the “inner citaaay”

        • Carlo

A lot of cops are pretty much useless, though, ya know? And some of them are worse-than-worthless and potentially dangerous nutjobs who should never have been allowed to carry a gun and badge.

They’re good for revenue generation by order of their bureaucratic masters, though, by way of pick-pocketing commuters going ten-over on the freeway on their way home from work.

Rarely a “peace keeper” around when someone might need one, though. And even then, they show up too late or sit outside the danger-zone until their “protocol” tells them it’s safe for them to “secure the premises.” Usually 40 minutes after all the damage is done.

          • Lex Terrae

Excellent point about cops having become civic revenue generators by enforcing laws in which there is no victim. How much do you suppose communities rely on fines and fees generated by victim-less crime?

Here’s an idea: How about passing a law requiring CPA’s and the firms they work in to come up with ‘generally accepted accounting principles’ for reporting such information (and a ton more). Then let us mandate that every community with any authority to make or enforce laws be required to track and post the information on their websites in prescribed forms so that John Q. Public can go out and do comparative analysis about the community that taxes him.

The Internet makes possible many things that could never have been done before. Our lawmakers waste their time trying to outlaw toy guns to avoid gang violence (as if) instead of focusing on simple things that would benefit the populace. But, perhaps, legislatures are meant to harangue and harass the communities they serve as posited by Orwell.

          • davec

“Excellent point about cops having become civic revenue generators by enforcing laws in which there is no victim.”

Or, critically, in PLACE OF the victim. Interfering in due process and the Right of Citizens to address Government for redress of grievances (loosely put, legal action)

      • facial

when an old lady shoots and kills you, i guess it will sink in that cops have a hard job.

  • Joe

This legislation will have NO effect on people doing stupid things. IF you modify a toy gun to look like a real gun, then point it at a cop, you deserve to be shot. What will the state do then, charge the dead bad-guy with a misdemeanor?

None-the-less, the legislation should be passed for those incidents that don’t end in tragedy.

    • LTCB

It’s only “high cover” for the cop to have a “justifiable shooting”.
The fact is, I agree with the natural selection comments above.
Dad used to say, don’t point a gun at anything you don’t intend to shoot; don’t shoot anything you don’t intend to kill, and, eat what you kill. When I went to the Marines during Vietnam, I asked him if that included the VC.

      • Old and in the Way

@LTCB: Your dad and my dad taught the same thing. Our toy guns were obvious toys … shiny “revolver” cap guns or wooden homemade guns. If I bought my six year-old a Glock toy and removed the orange tip, it’s on me that my son gets shot by the police. Take some responsibility for your actions, America. Would you buy your son a machete and send him out to play?

    • professor

Well, if you modify a toy gun, point it at a cop, get shot dead, at least you don’t have to do the 18 months! See that’s a Win-Win

  • Chris

If a cop will shoot you when you’re unarmed, or with a baby in your hands, then I don’t think they really care if your gun has an orange tip.

    • daveca

      THANK YOU. You state FACT.

      Its become Organized Crime

Typical knee jerk reaction from the leftists who like to take away peoples liberty and freedom because YOU ARE TOO STUPID to run your own life

    • Monty Jack

I’m a leftist and I oppose both laws like this and gun control in general. There’s no legislating intelligence and no trading liberty for security. What’s being paraded around by the MSM as “left” and “right” these days is neither- just an unholy alliance between big government and big corporations. It’s time the real left and right set aside differences and recognize our common enemy.

      • Renfield

I doubt that you’re a true leftist, MJ. Sounds to me like you’re a libertarian liberal, a rare bird today, since most liberals are quite authoritarian. (Nat Hentoff is an example of a libertarian liberal.) Conservatives, on the other hand, are more evenly split between libertarian and authoritarian.

Both libertarian and authoritarian conservatives oppose gun control, because “If guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns.”

Libertarian liberals (like you, I suspect) also oppose gun control, because “If guns are outlawed, only police will have guns.”

All leftists are authoritarian liberals. All leftists are for gun control.

      • JROCK

Youre not a leftist then MONTY JACK. Welcome to the Libertarian Party…. the genisis of the conservative movement.

      • RAD

That is funny. It is legal for a real gun, but a toy gun is illegal! they have no jurisdiction over real guns! but, cap guns , yes!!! what idiiots.

    • Tim Desland

Um, except that there’s already laws against felons having real firearms.

  • hammer

This is idiotic, the country is how old and has had toy guns since day one, What we need to do is have open carrry nationwide for anyone who is not a convicted felon, the crime rate would drop down dramatically.

    Tyranny is here…

  • Dchas

Whats next, banning knives and ball bats?

    • ditchdigger2

Yes, it’s illigal in much of Europe to have a pocket knife. When the Bolshiviks took over the airlines, the western U.S. and Alaska had buckets full of Leatherman and Gerber mult- tools, tens of thousands of $ in private property, stolen from honest U.S. taxpayers, to protect us from radical Islam. This has little to do with protecting the U.S.A..

    • Nomad

Just ban the toy ammo…problem solved.

    • Drafter

In California a friend of mine who plays baseball all the time was cited for having a concealed weapon in his car when an officer saw the baseball bat behind the seat while giving him a speeding ticket. so bats are already illeagle and in England knives are too they even have a knife Czar

      • John

I think your buddy is a BS artist.. First off it isn’t a citation offense and second weapons (basically excepting pistols and “assault rifles”, and other illegal to own items) that are in plain view can be carried in vehicles. And bats aren’t considered weapons unless modified in certain ways and/or used as a weapon. But what do I know I live in CA. Anybody who got his legal training off anything better than a crackerjack prize could win that one.

      • 10fthe1%

        Hi Drafter,
So the cop charged your buddy with carrying a concealed weapon for a piece of sports equipment he saw in plain view?
I do believe you. It is just a shame!

  • JustAGuy

This silliness reminds me of buildings with decals on the doors saying no guns allowed. That’s as dumb as the day is long.

Law abiding citizens will obey the decals, the criminals won’t. So you have a scenario where a criminal is engaged in crime using a firearm, yet the law abiding citizen who may have a concealed-carry permit is unable to offer life-saving assistance.

    • The Gunsmith

This sounds to me to be a issue of the need for more guns and not less guns. If there were more law-abiding citizens who CCW, when they tried to hold up someone using a toy gun, they would be shot and killed. Problem solved. Percentage of repeat offenders: 0%. You can’t cure stupid with picture signs.

  • Joey

THat republican moron, or mormon, needs to be voted out. You can’t legislate stupidity. IT’s not going to work.

  • Jenn

When I was in high school back in the 80’s – Gunsmithing was actually an elective…you see we didn’t have kids shooting eachother in school…oh and there was 1 pregnant girl in our whole highschool of about 1200 kids. When my brothers were little – they played with real revolvers that dad modified so it was not possible to actually fire them. Man those were good times.

  • Tom Roberts

Your problem is n-words, not toy guns. Stop the welfare and the n-words will leave.

    • JustAGuy

No. The problem is the Democrat party. Until Johnson’s Great Society programs, black families were intact, and healthy.

  • Henry Aldridge Smith

What a contrast! In Arizona, we can walk around with a concealed real handgun without needing a license or a permit.

In crime-ridden Detroit, you get arrested for carrying a toy gun.

Why would anyone want to live in Detroit, especially now that Ob*ma has nationalised the car industry (except for Ford)?

  • Jacob

Yeah, like that will stop the problem. Moronic fools.

  • Rupert Pupkin

“Supporters of the proposed legislation have also cited a recent case where a police officer was forced to shoot a gang member who was aiming a toy gun without its required markings. Jones believes this proposal will be vital in preventing incidents such as this from occurring in the future.”

Jones most definitely does not believe this, otherwise Jones would be a certifiable mental case. Jones is only saying he believes this because Jones thinks that more gun laws on the books can only be good for the anti-gun cause, whatever they may be, or however stupid they are. Jones is an a$$hole. Boy, I really despise Jones.

  • kbuzz

Of course …it is after all, San Francisco, who else would be stupid enough to do something like…What…your Kidding…Detroit.

  • Barry bin Inhalin

What a dumb idea. Must be National Do Nothing In The Legislature Day.

  • JustAGuy

I’m suspicious Senator Jones may be a moderate Republican, or even a liberal Republican. This sort of nonsense typically comes from the left.

  • CK

“If the legislation is passed, people who possess these toy guns and use it to commit a felony, would be punishable for up to 18 months behind bars and be subject to fines”

I don’t understand; isn’t committing a felony – regardless of the presence of a toy gun – already punishable?

    • daveca

Exactly, which is why this is a scam, its an attempt to, in the future, exonerate any cop that kills someone ‘armed’ with a toy.

  • shan can

Detroit will be the first American city under Sharia Law before the end of this decade.

    • Renfield

Nobody in Detroit will obey Sharia law either.

      • JustAGuy

I don’t know. Muslims don’t play around. When you see a bunch of street thugs missing one of their hands and missing the opposite foot, and a few headless bodies laying around, that’ll get their attention.

  • Michael Feldman

If people wont give up their real guns that they have illegally, what will this do?

The only thing anyone can do to fix Detroit is to stop giving people money for not working. This problem is in the unions and government. Being from Farmington I can tell you everyone in lower Michigan knows the unions killed manufacturing in Michigan, they just cost too much for a company to afford. If I was wrong Toyota and BMW (probably more but im not writing a research paper) would not profitably be building cars all over the US right now. Lets segue back to the original point, a job is probably the best remedy for real gun problems so instead of acting busy talking about fake guns maybe they should get busy taking power away from the unions and putting people back to work.

    • JustAGuy

Though I completely agree with you, that’ll never happen.

Labor Unions provide Democrat candidates with HUGE sums of campaign contributions. The Democrats will NEVER give up on that, let the American worker be d*mned!

      • Renfield

Also, the more a city deteriorates, the MORE Democratic it becomes, as productive people flee and parasites remain (and swarm in). It happens at the state level, too (cf. Mexifornia).

The only real question is, What happens when the city government is reduced to asking a population of parasites to support a population of parasites? A federal bailout is the only possible answer, so we’ll see whether Obama thinks Detroit is “too big to fail.”

  • Brian

Threatening people is a crime. Making a toy gun illegal will have the same effect with the criminal as outlawing real guns…another law for them to ignore.

  • Paczki rationality

How about instead of criminalizing owning toys, we just up the penalty for using a fake gun while committing a crime to what it would be if you use a real gun?
And let’s not consider it such a travesty if a police officer shoots a gangster that is threatening someone with a gun that turns out ot be fake…it’s called assumption of risk, people.
…and why isn’t it considered a good thing that the idiot gangsters are pointing fake guns at police officers instead of real ones?

  • LeChat

When I was a child, the police had no problems distinguishing between toy guns and real ones. I had a Luger squirt gun and a M-3 submachine cap gun. We had a shooting range in our high school basement. Real firearms were routinely carried on school buses on their way to shop class where they would get new stocks, new bolts, firing pins, etc.

But that was when America was a free country.

This proposed law is just another good reason to stay out of cities.

    • JustAGuy

The bigger the city, the more dysfunctional AND Democratic it is.

I know, I’m from one of the largest cities in the US and my wife is from another. Both cities are a colossal mess, and totally controlled by Democrats!

  • MarkJ

Detroit makes the best case I can think of for mandatory contraception.

  • The Unwelcome Voice of Sanity

Detroit is rotting to its bones and the Democrat legislators continue to argue about how many angels will fit on the head of a pin. Disgusting.

  • The Dad

Just make them join the union when they point a toy gun. Get em around real thugs so they learn to play with the real thing and not confuse people next time.

  • mmercier

    this site is faux commentary.

  • Bryan S.

Im trying to find the issue. Gang-banger gets shot while committing a crime…

My only regret in that situation is the paperwork and legal hassles that the armed citizen or officer is forced into by the perp.

  • Jane

    Dear Detroit,
Why do you keep voting these leftist loons in decade after decade. They have made themselves rich on the backs of the poor thru graft, crony capitalism and incompetence. Try a Republican next time. Give them a chance. Mr. Herman Cain has a plan for inner city job growth and hopefully Republicans will adopt it. Republicans support voucher programs for schools. President Obama took away the voucher program in Washington DC after one week in office. I guess he did not think that poor kids with good grades should go to schools with his children. Detroit there is another kind of bias and predjuduce today and it is an elite academic few who think that they can make decisions that will keep us poor and uneducated, while protecting the priveleged elite rulers and the politically connected class. Wake up, Detroit, stop being used, vote Republican and be lifted out of poverty.

    • Andrea

I’m from a city outside of Detroit. We have been asking them this question for decades. Well, here’s the answer. They vote all the left loons in and when everything falls apart they cry to Lansing for money to get out of trouble. Lansing always pulls them out. When you ask our state legislators why they do this, they tell us that Detroit is too important to fall. No one in Michigan wants riots or trouble in the streets ever again. So, blackmail would be the answer. Don’t expect them to vote for Republicans because Detroit does not want to loose control over the state of Michigan.

stupid liberal ploy,, anyone that would point a toy at police as a threat is probably to stupid to be living anyway and if your pointing a real one , well hope your a good shot or you will be filled with those said same hollow point, many of them . But a law to make toy gun illegal are you F****k**G kidding

  • Fearless Bystander

If just being stupid becomes a crime, a lot of people are going to be doing life without parole.

  • Jay

What happens when the gang members modiffy their REAL guns by putting an orange tip on them and then they end up murdering a cop because the cop thought it was a toy? If anyone points ANY gun at a cop, they have to expect to get shot.

    • Zig Sulewski

I suppose it’s alright to shoot a 6 year old if he takes up a karate stance against a cop. If a cop JUST FEELS threathened in any way. shoot to kill. We call this civilization??????

      • Renfield

No reasonable person would feel his life threatened by a 6-year-old taking a karate stance. Such a legal defense would be laughed out of court.

  • Dave

After I got my Concealed Weapons License and start caring ALL the time my dad expressed some concern. He was concerned that the weapon would possibly cause more problems than it would solve or prevent.

So I simply told him that I had thought that trough and came to this conclusion.

“ The consequences of using my weapon will be far less that the consequences of NOT USING it.”

    • JustAGuy

True story: A few years ago where I live, a couple street thugs burst into a Wallgreens carrying a 12 gauge shotgun. A patron was in line happened to be carrying a concealed weapon. He handled the matter, and killed the thug carrying the shotgun. The other one ran, but was later apprehended.

      • JA

wonder what kind of courtroom drama followed this hero’s actions? He probably was charged with a crime for discharging his ccw in a Wallgreens.

  • smith

Threatening people with a toy gun sure sounds like a quick way to start a long dirt nap, something that should be promoted in the gang community.

  • 1lump

Want to lower crime in Detroit? Want to take it to near zero? Outlaw being black in Detroit.

    • Big Bear

Better yet, put a razor wire fence around it and let them kill each other out of sight, out of mind.

  • Big Bear

Next they will make oregano a crime, since it can be mistaken for weed.

I’m glad I live in a Red State where my elected officials do what they should do: MANAGE THE MONEY I GIVE THEM!! These socialist Nanny Staters with their pet causes need to be ignored.

  • Lamauksha Washington

Article quote: “cited a recent case where a police officer was forced to shoot a gang member who was aiming a toy gun without its required markings. Jones believes this proposal will be vital in preventing incidents such as this from occurring in the future.”

Why would you want to stop and incident like that? A dead gang member is a good thing.

By the way, I’m pretty sure that robbery is a crime already, I don’t think a toy gun law is going to stop a criminal from committing a crime. Same with banning real guns…the only ones who have them then are the criminals.

    • daveca

The entire premise is a LIE:

“police officer was forced to shoot a gang member who was aiming a toy gun ‘

No, no police officer is REQUIRED to shoot at someone who is UNARMED. A toy gun means “un armed” because the gb cannot possibly shoot anyone with a fake gun.

this is ass covering after the fact, they blew away an UNARMED MAN and are looking to excuse it.

      • Wayne

So the cop is supposed to wait until he gets shot to see if the gun is real?

    • Lamauksha Washington

Not that I am worried about only gang bangers getting toy guns. The point was this proposed law is stupid.

  • The Gunsmith

Only in the city where liberals have been in charge for over 50 years would it be necessary to make a squirt gun illegal.

  • Teddy Novak

Yeah, that’s what Detroit needs to solve its problems.

    Friggin’ morons.

  • Gerry

They should make having a tiny, ignorant brain a crime in Detroit, then you could get rid of the majority of the criminals (Black, of course), the Mayor, and the City Council Members. After that, just let nature take it’s course and the remaining criminals will be shot on sight.

  • chicago76

All the laws in the world cannot control those who cannot control themselves. Laws are made for people who can control themselves. This is just another law the bad will ignore and will take away the rights of the good people.

  • 456346346

Another example of brilliant thinking by progressive democrats that has done so much to keep crime rates down in places like Detroit, the District of Columbia and Southside Chicago!
