Snowfall Causes Slick Spots On Detroit-Area Roadways

SOUTHFIELD (WWJ) - Traffic is slowing to a crawl in parts of Metro Detroit because roads are now snow-covered and slippery.

WWJ's John Bailey said most freeways are wet, but there is snow on I-696 near I-275 and along M-14 that is causing some especially slick spots.

Some drivers say it is taking them twice as long to drive from Ann Arbor to Detroit because of the snow. Several drivers in the downriver area say it's snowing pretty hard, with snowflakes the size of nickels.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Department says 70 to 80 salt trucks are on the road now.

AccuWeather said so far this winter, we've had about 21.5 inches of snow. On average, we normally receive about 36 inches each Winter.

The snow delay should only be momentarily though, as warmer temperatures should prevent any accumulation.
