This year’s iconic Sports Illustrated Swimwear edition displayed Michigan born Kate Upton on the cover in a bikini manufactured by Michigan designer, Magdalena Trever.
Out of 10,000 suits that were presented to Upton, she chose to grace the cover in Maggie May Swimwear.
Trever explained how her business started.
“A friend and I had studied knitwear designs and we were trying to do bikinis just for fun. We did like three bikinis and I kept getting asked to do like smaller fashion shows,” she said.
After that, Trever said she came back to Michigan and obtained a bank loan from a local bank and that allowed her to step into the highly competitive swimwear market.
“Probably what really inspired me is just growing by water my whole life. Loving swimwear and that is probably what made me leap to get into it,” she said
According to Trever, she designs and knits all the suits by herself. She hopes to be able to continuously “make beautiful suits that will last and look good on women” in the future.
