Front Running Republicans Make Their Pitch In Michigan Before Primary

TROY (WWJ) – Michigan is set to hold its presidential primary on Tuesday.

And while it’s Mitt Romney’s home state, recent polls show it’s turning out to be a competitive race between the former Massachusetts governor and former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum.

“I think I’m the only guy, in this race, that can beat Barack Obama,” said Romney. “I am calling on your help on Tuesday to vote, and down the road to make sure that we keep America, as it’s always been, the hope of the earth.”

Romney campaigned in Flint, Michigan on Saturday and made the case that he’s got the best shot of winning the general election in November.

Santorum campaigned in St. Clair Shores, Michigan on Saturday, where he argued that he’s the true conservative candidate running.

“It’s laughable for Governor Romney to suggest that I am not a conservative,” said Santorum. “It is absolutely laughable to have a liberal governor of Massachusetts suggest that I am not the conservative in this race.”

The Michigan primary takes place Tuesday, February 28.
