Gov. Snyder Appoints New State Fire Marshal

LANSING (AP) – Dearborn Fire Chief Richard Miller has been named state fire marshal.

Gov. Rick Snyder said in announcing Miller’s appointment that he “brings extensive training and more than 30 years of experience” to the post.

The state fire marshal leads the Michigan Bureau of Fire Services and also serves as a member, or ex-officio member, of the State Fire Safety Board, Fire Fighters Training Council and State Board of Mechanical Rules.

Miller began his career as a firefighter in Dearborn and worked his way up to inspector, lieutenant, captain and senior battalion chief. He has served on the Michigan State Fire Safety Board since August.
