It’s sold out hundreds of performances and earned rave reviews from the likes of the New York Times. And now the Broadway musical “Book of Mormon” is coming to Detroit.
The collaboration between “South Park” creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and Robert Lopez, composer of “Avenue Q,” “Book of Mormon” is a comedic romp through the world of Mormonism. It follows an “Odd Couple” of missionaries sent to Uganda to spread their religion.
“Book of Mormon” will run March 12-24, 2013, at the Fisher Theatre. It’s part of the subscription season that includes “Billy Elliot the Musical,” the 2009 Tony winner with a score by Elton John on Sept. 4-16; “La Cage Aux Folles,” starring George Hamilton and Christopher Sieber on Sept. 25-Oct. 7; “Dr. Seuss’ How the Grinch Stole Christmas! The Musical,” Dec. 18-30 at the Detroit Opera House; “Memphis,” the 2010 Tony winner for best musical on April 9-21, 2013, and “Catch Me If You Can,” a musical based on the Tom Hanks and Leonard DiCaprio movie, which will play May 7-19, 2013.
Subscription tickets are on sale now, starting at $289 for all six shows. Individual tickets will go on sale at a later date.
