911 Call: 11-year-old Girl Thwarts Break-in

HARPER WOODS (WWJ) - A police dispatcher is praising a 11-year-old Harper Woods girl who thwarted a robbery at her home.

"Amari" called police Monday afternoon after hearing what sounded like an intruder. She hid in the closet with her brothers, ages 5 and 7, and the telephone.

"I think somebody's breaking in the house. We just came home from school and put our pajamas on. We're really scared and our mom is on her way here," she told the dispatcher.

"I don't know if anyone's in the house but I do hear noises ... We hear him from the back door. We're really scared," the girl said.

Hear the call:

The dispatcher kept Amari on the phone talking about school until the police arrived.  Dispatchers say it was key that Amari knew her address and could remember it, despite her fear.

Officers arrested two teens running from the home.
