Doug Karsch: Someone Punched The Lions Lottery Ticket

The Detroit Lions Franchised defensive end Cliff Avril on Monday and did not place the exclusive tag on him. Eight days from now, if he is not signed by then, he can negotiate with any team. If Avril gets an offer, the Lions have a choice, match the offer OR let Avril walk and receive two first round picks in compensation.

All it takes is one. One team that sees Avril as a solution to a major problem. One team like New England who has been seeking a pass rusher and has extra draft picks to burn. Please!

Think about what the Lions could do with the extra money. Think about what the Lions could do with the extra draft picks.

Will someone bite? Probably not, but who would have imagined the Cowboys would have given up three draft picks including a first rounder for Roy Williams. There likely will be no more Herschel Walker trades in this day and age, but this would be the modern-day equivalent.
