Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall was recognized for his offensive abilities Monday, when he was named the NHL’s second star of the week after picking up seven points in three games.

On Tuesday, Kronwall was recognized for his ability to deliver crushing open-ice hits. Once again, he leveled an opponent and caused tempers to flare on the ice as a result.

Kronwall hit Philadelphia’s Jakub Voracek with a shoulder check that caught the forward square in the head midway through the second period of the Flyers’ 3-2 win at the Wells Fargo Center. Kronwall didn’t leave his feet and was not penalized.

He believes the hit was clean, though he acknowledges the NHL likely will review the play.
