Humane Society Offers $10 Pet Microchipping

ST. CLAIR SHORES (CBS Detroit) Spring is hot on our heels and that means those adventurous dogs and cats in your house may get rabbit in their blood.

The Michigan Humane Society is bracing for a significant rise in the number of lost and missing pets as the weather warms.

To prevent the heartache of losing a beloved companion, the Humane Society is holding a low-cost pet microchipping clinic this Saturday, March 10, at the Camp Bow Wow training center in St. Clair Shores, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Microchipping will be offered for $10, discounted from the regular cost of approximately $50. This will give your pet a safe and permanent form of identification that can be identified by nearly every veterinarian, humane organization and local animal control. The MHS says when combined with an ID tag, it's the best way to ensure that if a pet becomes lost, they will always have a ticket home!

The Camp Bow Wow training center is located at 23720 Greater Mack in St. Clair Shores. Supplies of microchips are limited to 400, which will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

All dogs and cats must be on leashes or in appropriate carriers, and please ensure your pet is comfortable around other animals. Be ready to provide the necessary information to register your microchip, including home address and phone number, name and phone number of your pet's veterinarian, and an alternate contact person's name and phone number.

For more information about the event, please call 1-866-MHUMANE (648-6263) or visit www.michiganhumane.org.
