Doc Thompson Joins Talk Radio's 1270 WXYT-AM As New Afternoon Host

SOUTHFIELD, Michigan (WWJ) Talk radio veteran Doc Thompson joins 1270 WXYT-AM, weekdays from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m., starting Monday, March 12, 2012. Thompson relocated from Cincinnati to Detroit and, along with morning host Charlie Langton, adds local flavor to the popular talk station.

Thompson replaces Todd Schnitt, whose tremendously popular syndicated show will move to evenings, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

"Detroit has history of great radio and I'm very excited to be part of it," said Thompson, who grew up east of Cleveland and clearly remembers his mom listening to Detroit radio in the car. "We are living in stressful times and the news can be pretty depressing. I offer a unique and compelling viewpoint with lots of humor and fun."

Thompson was most recently the midday host on WLW-AM in Cincinnati, Ohio, and the afternoon host on WRVA in Richmond, Virginia, and a guest host on the Glenn Beck Program, a position he will continue to hold. He has also worked in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Las Vegas, Nevada, and was instrumental in some of his former stations winning NAB Marconi Awards, the equivalent of the Academy Awards for radio excellence.

Although candid and forthright, Thompson (who was nicknamed Doc because the initials of his first name are MD) loves a good practical joke, so listeners can expect a fun ride.

"Doc is a great talent and we're excited to have him live and local in afternoon drive talking about the issues affecting Detroit, southeast Michigan, and the rest of the country. Doc's brand of entertaining and informative talk radio will be exactly what rush hour listeners need to get through their afternoon drive," said WXYT Program Director Rona Danziger. "Todd Schnitt, one of the hottest syndicated talents in the business, will immediately follow Doc. This is a powerful one-two punch as we grow Talk Radio 1270's conservative brand of talk in Detroit."

Debbie Kenyon, Senior Vice-President and Market Manager of CBS Radio Detroit, added: "This is a critical election year, and we're thrilled to add a big talent like Doc Thompson to our lineup to talk about it. People can now drive to work with Charlie Langton and drive home with Doc for the most informative and interesting takes on the issues affecting metro Detroit. He's an amazing addition to a strong lineup."
