Public Forum To Tackle Regional Transit

DETROIT (WWJ) - They're talking transportation Monday night in Detroit and the public is invited.

State Rep. Maureen Stapleton is hosting a town hall meeting focused on roads and the planned creation of a regional transportation authority.

"The biggest challenge is making people understand, I think, at least two things: The importance of having roads that are in good condition, and then the important of having a real transportation system that is unified - that can move people to jobs in and out and around this region quickly," Stapleton said.

Stapleton said there is a package of bills moving through the state legislature right now that will "transform how we address our roads."

The County Road Associated of Michigan, the Michigan Department of Transportation and Wayne County transportation experts will all be panelists at the meeting.

The forum takes place at 6 p.m. Monday (March 12) at Plymouth United Church of Christ in Detroit.

What would like to see when it comes to transportation in Michigan? Better roads, high-speed rail, an improved bus system, or something else? Comment below.
