Teen In Hit & Run Thought Man Was 'Furniture'

PONTIAC (WWJ) - A Troy teen who thought she hit a piece of furniture instead hit and killed a person lying in the road.

Oakland County Sheriff's investigators say they aren't sure why the man was lying on Cesar Chavez Road just after 10 p.m. Sunday.

The 18-year old driver told police it felt like her 1995 Chevy Lumina had struck a piece of furniture so she just kept driving.

A witness followed her and called police who were able to stop her car near Andersonville Road near Waterloo.

The victim, a black male, was taken to McLaren Pontiac Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police said alcohol did not appear to be a factor in the case. An investigation is ongoing.
