DETROIT (AP) – General Motors is going to idle production at its Detroit Hamtramk plant for five weeks, because it has too many Chevy Volts.
GM says they’ll halt Volt production Monday and resume it on April 23rd, with the goal of reducing inventories of the Volt. They have about 6300 in stock, a 154 days supply, which is too many for the company.
Sales of the Volt have not been where GM wanted them to be and they recently backed off on specific projections saying they would build to demand.
Meanwhile, the Detroit Hamtramk plant is ramping up to build other product but the Volt is the only thing being built there right now.
