Avril Gives His Take On Bounties

Defensive end Cliff Avril reaction to the punishment imposed on the Saints for the role in the bounty scandal?

“That’s crazy,” he said. “It’s unfortunate to lose your head coach for a year. I don’t even know how you would go about the season after that. But I can understand what (commissioner Roger Goodell) is doing as far as making them an example as far as bounties. But at the same time, I don’t know of a lot of players who are going out there trying to hurt people. It’s just that since you’ve been in high school and you see that guy coming across the middle and you take him out with a big hit, you get a lot of respect for that. You are always out there looking for the big hit. I don’t think that’s a big deal.”
