DETROIT (WWJ) – Twenty-one years in the playoffs, the most of any active team in sports and the Detroit Red Wings were rewarded with a record crowd at Tuesday’s luncheon at the Detroit Economic Club.
WWJ’s Sandra McNeill reports that 800 people turned out for the annual luncheon.
Wings Head Coach Mike Babcock told the crowd that he thinks the Wings have the best chance for a cup that they’ve had since 2009.
Babcock says the playoffs are exciting and a lot of it has to do with the Detroit fans.
“Well, I think each and every year it’s a fun time. Obviously, with the economic situation in Detroit being better – there is a better crowd downtown anyway and that is a positive thing,” said Babcock.
There were a few light moments during the lunch. Henrik Zetterberg said if he couldn’t play hockey, he’d like to play golf … but he’s not very good, he admits.
And when Pavel Datsyuk was asked for advice for young players he said … that’s a tough thing to answer sober.
