Caught Trying To Steal Electronics, Kmart Shoplifter Opens Fire
ROSEVILLE (WWJ) - Roseville police are looking for a man who shot at security guards at a Super Kmart store.
It happened at around 5:30 p.m. Monday at the Kmart near Gratiot and Frazho. That's when police said store employees spotted a young man allegedly removing security tags from electronic equipment.
When they approached him, he pulled a silver plated revolver from his pants and opened fire. The bullets hit the ground, but fragments struck two security guards.
The suspect then ran out and took off in a white Chrysler Sebring. A chase ensued.
Police say the getaway driver, a female, let the gunman out of the car and he continued on foot. A search by K-9 units found no sign of him.
"Characterize it more than brazen," said Roseville Police Deputy Chief James Berlin. "This is highly unusual for a shoplifter to one, be armed at all, let alone attempt to use a weapon to facilitate his escape."
The woman is in custody.
The security guards were treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
The suspect is described as back male in his early 20s, 6'3" 240 lbs., with short hair. He was wearing a dark-colored hoodie, a white T-shirt and jeans.
