Ferndale Police Warn Residents After 14 Cars Broken Into

FERNDALE (WWJ) - Ferndale police are warning residents to lock their vehicles after receiving more than one dozen reports of items being stolen from cars.

Investigators say the thieves just opened unlocked doors and stole things from inside the cars on Chesterfield, Jewell, Camden and Spencer streets, in the area of Hilton and Eight Mile. The robberies all occurred during the late night and early morning hours.

"We took reports of about 14 breaking into cars and it appears in almost every case, the people left their vehicles unlocked and the suspects went inside and removed items that they could easily grab," Lt. Gary Whiting told WWJ Newsradio 950.

Police have no suspects at this time.

"We hope to identify the suspects through some physical evidence, but we don't have any leads right now," said Whiting.

Anybody with information is asked to contact the Ferndale Police Department at 248-541-3650.
