Men In Court Friday After Hamtramck Women Found In Shallow Grave

DETROIT (CBS Detroit)  A preliminary exam is happening Friday for two men accused of kidnapping and killing two young women from Hamtramck in February.

They’re charged with attempted murder in a separate earlier incident involving Abreeya Brown and Ashley Conaway, whose bodies were discovered Monday in a shallow grave near 6 Mile and Telegraph in Detroit.

Witness Andre Douglas, who was originally believed to be involved but was later cleared of any wrong doing, took the stand. He told the court he saw defendants Bryant Lee and Brandon Cain talking to the two victims on February 8th.

He said Cain told the girls not to drive off or else Lee would shoot. He says the girls then started to pull away.

Police believe the men later kidnapped and killed Conaway and Brown when they threatened to tell police what happened.

Conaway’s sister Latrina Conaway was distraught just hours after learning of the news that her sister’s body was found.

“We should not lose our children to such evil and rotten men,” she told WWJ Newsradio at the time.

Conaway’s mother, Lois Brown, was in disbelief when she learned what happened to her daughter. “I didn’t even have a chance to bury my own child and they took it upon themselves to bury my own daughter,” Brown said.

Where’s Jesse? Where’s Al? Where’s Horace? I guess there weren’t enough cameras around, and no white person to blame. I’m just sayin’!

    1. Dee says:

Exuse me.. You sound ignorant. Jesse and All would come out to protest racial injustice. I am not saying that black on black crime is not a prevelant issue, however, this is no way compares to the Trayvon Martin case.

  2. Ebony says:

Amen Jim! But at the same time we kill each other so much its not enough time in the day for them to come save everybody. Where’s the churches? Where’s the good old fashion parenting? I think this is Hell..smh

  3. Emily says:

To date there have been close to 80 murders in Detroit since January. That’s nearly a murder a day. That’s just Detroit, think about the country. Do you really expect all of them to be blown up in the media? The Trevyvon/Zimmerman was blown up because of the controversy and the fact that the police handled it very poorly.

  4. Emily says:

Just to clarify, I’m not saying that this is not a great tragedy, it obviously is. These girls deserve justice and the family deserves at least some peace of mind knowing that these criminals will (hopefully) be locked away for a long time.

  5. Rita says:

Thank you Emily! If you scroll up and look at the picture you see the two accused murders in handcuffs, in court. Hopefully they will spend the rest of their natural lives behind bars, since there’s no death penalty in Mi.

Also, I really don’t understand all the ridicule that Al Sharpton and the others get.
