Men In Court Friday After Hamtramck Women Found In Shallow Grave

DETROIT (CBS Detroit)  A preliminary exam is happening Friday for two men accused of kidnapping and killing two young women from Hamtramck in February.

They're charged with attempted murder in a separate earlier incident involving Abreeya Brown and Ashley Conaway, whose bodies were discovered Monday in a shallow grave near 6 Mile and Telegraph in Detroit.

Witness Andre Douglas, who was originally believed to be involved but was later cleared of any wrong doing, took the stand. He told the court he saw defendants Bryant Lee and Brandon Cain talking to the two victims on February 8th.

He said Cain told the girls not to drive off or else Lee would shoot. He says the girls then started to pull away.

Police believe the men later kidnapped and killed Conaway and Brown when they threatened to tell police what happened.

Conaway's sister Latrina Conaway was distraught just hours after learning of the news that her sister's body was found.

"We should not lose our children to such evil and rotten men," she told WWJ Newsradio at the time.

Conaway's mother, Lois Brown, was in disbelief when she learned what happened to her daughter. "I didn't even have a chance to bury my own child and they took it upon themselves to bury my own daughter," Brown said.
