DETROIT (WWJ) – If you’re driving by Belle Isle Thursday around noon and notice a fire — don’t panic, it’s all planned.
In an effort to eradicate several invasive plant species, the City of Detroit will conduct a controlled burn on Belle Isle behind the Nature Zoo and by Oakway Drive near the golf course. The Fire Department will be on location at the time of the burns.
This will be the city’s second burn on Belle Isle behind the zoo in the last 3 years.
There will also be controlled burns at the Rouge and Eliza Howell parks sometime before April 15. The timing of the burns is dependent on the weather conditions. More specific burn dates will be announced in the days prior to the burns.
