Fuel Tank Issue Prompts Jeep Recall

AUBURN HILLS, MI -- (WWJ) Chrysler is recalling 1689 Jeep Patriot and Compass SUV's from the 2012 model year.

"Some vehicles may have been built with a fuel tank assembly containing a damaged roll-over valve," reads a posting on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration web site. "In the event of an impact or roll-over, fuel leakage could occur increasing the risk of a fire."

There have been no reports of accidents or fires related to this problem.

Chrysler says all of the vehicles involved were built between December 17th of last year and January 2, 2012.

Letters are expected to go out to owners in June. Chrysler says those with questions can call 1 800 853-1403.
