Marshmallows Dropped From The Sky For Children's Easter Delight
TRENTON (WWJ) - Over 100 children put their rabbit-like reflexes to work Friday morning, as thousands of Easter treats fell from the sky.
WWJ's Mike Campbell was on the scene at Elizabeth Park in Trenton as Wayne County's 28th Annual Marshmallow Drop took place.
Local children lined up with their parents as they eagerly waited for the helicopter to fly over and thousands of marshmallows to come floating from the sky. When they were finally given the signal, kids ran as fast as they could to collect a marshmallow. They then turned that marshmallow in for a special Easter-themed prize.
Eleven-year-old Eric from Riverview has learned a few tricks of the trade over the years.
"You have to run really fast to get a marshmallow, and there are a lot of people. There's not as many marshmallows as there are people, I don't think," he said.
The helicopter flew by three times, dropping the fluffy treats for children seperated into similar age groups.
Eight-year-old Jacob Lacksey said it's not a race, it's just about having fun.
"It's not a race, it's just to get a marshmallow and get a prize," he said.
There was some concern, however, on at least one of the other participant's mind.
"Well the birds might want them because marshmallows are yummy," said 5-year-old Ariel.
A second marshmallow drop was also held at Nakin Mills park in Westland.
