Police Warn Residents After Report Of Burglar Disguised As Construction Worker

BRIGHTON TWP. (WWJ) - Police are warning residents of Brighton Township to be on the lookout for a burglar who may be disguised as a construction worker.

Michigan State Police say residents should be watchful for a silver hatchback SUV type vehicle, occupied by a white male wearing glasses, who is approximately 5'10-6'00" tall, medium build, has a beard and speaks with a slight accent.

The warning comes after police investigated a burglary at a home on East Grand River Avenue. According to police, the homeowners stated they returned home from shopping around 2 p.m. Wednesday to find a silver vehicle parked in their driveway.

The homeowners told police they were contacted by a male subject who was wearing an orange hard hat and a safety vest. The man lured the homeowners to the rear of their yard under the pretext of showing them a drain problem.

While in the backyard, the suspect made a few calls on his cell phone before walking around the front of the house. The homeowners say after they entered the home looked out their front window, the suspect's silver vehicle was gone.

The homeowners were suspicious and called a neighbor who suggested they check the residence and call 911. Police say it was at this time the homeowners discovered approximately $1,000 in cash missing from a drawer.

If anyone who may have information regarding this robbery or the suspect is asked to contact the Michigan State Police Brighton Post at 810-227-1051.
