INDEPENDENCE TWP. (WWJ) - A 6-month-old baby is dead after getting wedged between a mattress and wall while sleeping with his mother.

Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call Saturday at a home on Rendall Lane in Independence Township where they found the infant unresponsive.

An autopsy, Sunday determined the baby boy died of positional asphyxiation, after apparently falling into the crevice-like space between the bed and the wall.

Authorities say the death appears to be an accident.
