Courtesy Patrol Driver Struck On I-96

DETROIT (WWJ) - A Michigan Department of Transportation courtesy patrol driver was taken to the hospital Wednesday after being hit on the freeway.

An MDOT spokesman said it happened on the express lane of Eastbound I-96 at the Southfield Freeway. The patrol driver was getting out of his van to help a stranded motorist when he was struck by another vehicle passing by.

The courtesy driver suffered leg and head injuries.

As of Wednesday afternoon there was no word on his condition.

Eastbound I-96 (Express) ramp from M-39/Southfield was closed following the incident but has since reopened.
