Traffic Alert: Weekend Road Work

DETROIT (WWJ) - Know before you go! If you're traveling on I-696 through Oakland and Macomb counties this weekend, be prepared to encounter a few lane closures. Also, take a look ahead into next week, as several road work projects are set to begin on Monday.

The following projects were announced by MDOT. As always, some of this work may be postponed due to weather.

I-696:

In Macomb County, the left lane of eastbound and westbound I-696 will be closed at M-53 (Van Dyke Ave) daily between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Friday through Sunday for barrier wall work.

In Macomb County, the eastbound I-696 ramp to eastbound I-94 will be closed Sunday from 7 a.m. until 10 a.m. for survey work. A detour will be posted.

In Oakland County, the right lane of westbound I-696 will be closed from Orchard Lake to Farmington roads from 7 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday for ditch cleaning. In addition, the ramp from southbound Orchard Lake Road to westbound I-696 will be closed during the same time frames.

I-75:

In Wayne County, the right lane of northbound and southbound I-75 is closed at Dix-Toledo Road for bridge work. The right lanes will remain closed until November as crews work this summer to construct a new overpass and rebuild one mile of I-75 between King and Sibley roads.

Beginning the week of Monday, April 16:

I-94:

In Wayne County, the right lane of westbound I-94 from Outer Drive to M-39 will be closed from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Monday for sign work.

I-75:

In Wayne County, the existing I-75 sound wall between Brunswick Drive and Deerfield Park will require shoulder closures on southbound I-75. Work hours are restricted to 7 a.m. until 8 p.m. weekdays; all work will be completed by August.

I-696:

In Macomb County, work will begin to resurface more than 2 miles of the eastbound and westbound I-696 service drives between M-3 (Gratiot Avenue) and M-97 (Groesbeck Highway) in the communities of Roseville and Eastpointe.

There will be single-lane closures Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. On Saturday and Sunday, single-lane closures will be in effect from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. The intersections at Gratiot, Hayes and Groesbeck will have lane restrictions limited to 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on weekdays.

US-12:

In Wayne County, the addition of a right-turn lane on westbound US-12, from the I-275 interchange to northbound Haggerty Road, will require intermittent single-lane closures during active work hours. All work is expected to be completed in August.
