LANSING (AP) - Gov. Rick Snyder is overseas visiting Michigan troops in Afghanistan and plans to travel next to see troops in Germany.

The Republican governor left for Kuwait on Monday night from Washington, D.C. Snyder spokesman Ryan Kazmirzack says the governor will return to Michigan on Friday.

Snyder was to speak with reporters Wednesday afternoon about how his trip is going. Watch a video of his chat here.

He's traveling with the governors of Rhode Island and South Dakota in a visit organized by the Department of Defense.

In November 2005, then-Gov. Jennifer Granholm traveled to the Middle East with the governors of Kansas, Mississippi and Georgia.

After flying to Qatar, she visited with troops and government leaders in Kuwait and Iraq. She also served a Thanksgiving meal to Michigan soldiers during her three-day trip.
