Detroit Mayor Bing On Road To Recovery

DETROIT (WWJ) - Detroit Mayor Dave Bing is on the road to recovery, following surgery earlier this month.

His Chief-of-Staff Kirk Lewis said Bing should be back in the executive office in a couple of weeks.

"The Mayor's doing well. He's looking forward to being back in the office," Lewis said, adding that Bing will be taking it a bit easy at first.

"Probably on a part-time basis. And then shortly after that full-time," Lewis said. "And, as I've said before, I'll be the happiest person in the city when he's back here, really to get back to doing what he does best."

Bing spent some time in early April at Henry Ford Hospital where he underwent surgery to correct a perforated colon.  The Mayor's illness came at an inopportune time when the city was struggling to make a deal with the state to handle Detroit's finances.
