Jolie Diamond Spawning Copycat Rings

ROYAL OAK (WWJ) - Diamonds never go out of style. A fact crystalized by the attention to  actress Angelina Jolie's new ring, that is not only turning heads but it's being recreated by one local jeweler.

WWJ's Kathryn Larson reports that Miner's Den's Dave Schowalter, the Royal Oak jewelry store already has three orders, but says this style has been gaining popularity for a while now.

"The one we most recently quoted was $125,000. What Angelina's ring cost I have no idea," said Schowalter.

So move over Angelina Jolie, the actress isn't the only one wearing the rock crystal seven carat emerald cut diamond ring.

"Yeah, a year ago, we saw an uptick in emerald cuts but also shapes other than princess cuts and round so the ebb is flowing right now," he said.

But he notes that trends come from all over, not just celebrity, addressing the attention that former First Lady Barbara Bush brought to pearls.

"They are a girls best friend," laughed Showalter.

So how long will it take Miner's Den to hand craft your Angelina copycat; just a couple of weeks.
