Would You Draft Janoris Jenkins?

By: Terry Foster

Janoris Jenkins smokes weed, has too many babies and was involved in a huge fight while he was in college. He was such a problem in college that Jenkins finished his career at Division II North Alabama rather than at Florida where he began his college career.

With that said I'd rather take a chance on Jenkins than Philadelphia Eagles corner back Asante Samuel who is 31 years old. I do not like bringing in 30 something players in as free agents or trade for them. Currently the Eagles are dangling Samuel and all they want is a fifth-round draft pick. It sounds too good to be true.

Here is a former Pro Bowl corner back who can be a Lion with a song. Can it be true?
It could happen but I'd rather take a chance on Jenkins. I don't like Jenkins off field behavior. I do like the way he plays on the field and I like his youth. He is a guy that can be Pro Bowl corner back. I like that.

I do not like over the hill NFL players who make lots of money. They are usually disappointments when they are traded or released. If the Lions obtain him he they will be paying him for what he used to be, not what he is now. Samuel said he's willing to take a pay cut. If he is on my team it has to be below $3 million. Currently he is scheduled to make $9.5 million. That is too much. I can tolerate $2 million but he likely won't accept that much of a pay cut.

He used to be a great cover corner. But he is not physical. He is not what he used to be. His better days are behind him.

Jenkins' better days are ahead of him. Despite his troubles I'd rather take a chance on the young fella' than the old pro.
