Higher Ed Summit Planned For May 7: An extraordinary group of state and national higher education, economic and business leaders will convene in Lansing Monday, May 7 to share strategies for strengthening Michigan by leveraging its higher education system. The summit will highlight national best practices that involve using higher education to drive the economy, including translating university research and innovation into jobs and creating a skilled and talented workforce to meet current and future job demands. This panel will explore the leading role Michigan’s universities play in driving the innovation that is critical to our economic recovery and long-term prosperity. By 2025, Michigan will need 1 million additional college graduates to meet job demand — a 17 percent increase over the current trend. Meeting this goal is made more difficult as Michigan must compete with the rest of the nation and globe for talent.
